Along the Little Missouri River just north of the South unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Three bachelor bulls work their way along the river. Beneath the skeletons of cottonwood trees. Scoria bands of earth run through the bluffs behind them. Popping bright in the fall sun. The river is low. Testament to a long summer with little rain. This is the North Dakota that captured my heart. The North Dakota that will forever be my home.
