Original artwork description:

A painted box of a glowing, colourful landscape.
On the outside gold is shining warmly through the mainly Burnt Sienna paint.
Inside there is a quieter rendering of flowers and trees.

Photographs show the work in various settings to show off its progress and shininess ...

Firstly I applied "Imitation Gold Leaf" foil sheets to a small deep cardboard box. The natural joins on the surface of the gold immediately suggested a landscape to me and I began on the horizon of this front landscape.
I then drew trees in permanent black ink; next I built up layers of acrylic colours which are mostly transparent.
The inside is decorated with Caran d'Ache pencils ... a landscape on the inside of the lid and some flowers on the inside of the base. Forget-Me-Nots were growing beside the table where I was working outdoors, so they were my inspiration, as were the large trees in my garden. Last but not least the poem by RS Thomas "The Bright Field" is a recurring inspiration to me.

The box is signed on the reverse.
The outside surfaces of the box are varnished with Archival Gloss Varnish. I've photographed it under my sitting room lamp to illustrate the beautiful glow.
