Love and companionship is an essential need around which our lives grow. On the other hand love when unrequited or betrayed brings the most devastating and self destructive emotions into play which destroy many lives around us. The laws of attraction work in very confusing ways. The characteristics which initially attract us to someone, slowly turn to disadvantages when we get too familiar with that person. At that instant we start molding and changing each other into the kind of person we imagine the other to be, in the name of love. We do compromise at times to keep the relationship alive and slowly lose our identity and individuality. We become strangers to ourselves and each other. Love dies, and we lament 'you are not the person I fell in love with!' It is the need of possession which ruins love, because it is not possible to posses anyone. As Sting sang, 'If you love somebody, set them free'. The 'Lament' deals with this side of the human psyche. I used watercolor wash on handmade paper first and then drew in the details with a pen using waterproof ink.
