This image was made on my second visit to Italy. We spent a week in the town of Riva del Garda, at the northernmost point of Lake Garda. I don't function very well in high temperatures, preferring the cool of dawn and dusk. Which is good in Mediterranean countries, as the local population do the same, with recreation coming at the end of the heat of the day.
Despite the ambient 75C temperatures (rising to almost 90C during the day!) the lake is freezing, fed by the run off waters from the southern Alpine ranges that look over the town. There are signs warning bathers of this, as diving in can bring on severe cold water shock. Yet these local inhabitants seemed immune, diving without care to escape the heat. I watched them for over 30 minutes, until I caught my 'decisive moment'. M. Cartier-Bresson, thank you for that!
Limited Edition prints are printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl 285gsm paper, a premium quality, acid- and lignin-free paper. FineArt Pearl paper has a similar foundation to that used in the past in traditional silver fibre prints. Its premium formulation allows for high image definition, deep blacks and outstanding reproduction of colour and detail.
Prints are on A2 paper size, each in an edition of 20, plus 1 Artist’s Proof. The image is printed full frame onto the standard sized A2 sheet. The actual print will have a border around the sides and top to allow for framing.
An A1 limited-edition print is also available of this image, again limited to 20 copies. Please contact Jonathan for pricing details and availability.
Smaller prints are also available in A3 and A4 limited editions.
