‘LAKE” is an acrylic painting 28x20 cms on 300gms canvas paper. It is presented in a white card mount 35x28cms. The painting can be transferred to a larger mount if preferred. Please see the pictures where the painting is shown in a glazed frame 56x45cms and can be purchased at an increased shipping cost, if preferred. ‘Lake’ is inspired by a familiar location and in keeping with similar paintings made at this time focuses on memory and imagination. ‘Lake’ is part of a small series of paintings related to Hesketh Park, Southport, U.K. I walk in this park everyday. This Victorian park has extensive gardens and ornate fountains that have been restored and reconstructed. There are numerous nature trails, varied wildlife and a large lake. Pathways fall and rise in this green space, which is only moderately manicured. Viewpoints are varied. The lake is a centrepiece and forms the inspiration behind the work. The painting is not made in an order that can be understood as literal. It is about seeing and feeling and responding to a very special location and its atmosphere. That sense of atmosphere as something immersive tests my capacity to balance material tactility with connotative intangibility.
