The scene of this painting has a dreamy quality. It depicts the wonder in what the ocean & nature has to offer. The loveliness of the girl equals the loveliness of the queen conch she is holding carefully. The ladybirds cannot help being attracted. They symbolize good luck.
The title of this painting refers to an old nursery rhyme in which ladybirds are called to fly away home.
The painting features my daughter as model, wearing a silver evening gown which I used to wear in my early twenties, the shell is a specimen of my collection, the ladybirds contribute to the mystery.
Painted round the edges. The metallic blue background causes a different look as the light changes during the day.
