LA Noir is a dark, bold, dramatic and mysterious painting made with sumi-ink in wet and dry brush technique, and paint markers. The painting contrasts the expressionist background in black and white with the strong geometric linework, creating multiple layers of content that can be explored with the eyes. Doing so, the painting takes reference in film noir movies and comics (Frank Miller), as well as abstract sumi-e paintings. A closer look reveals reflections in the water of palm trees shaken by strong winds and a shimmer of light that eminates towards the borders of the painting.
