I love old architecture and especially the aged patina of the building materials. I had been eyeing this impressive abandoned sugar mill at a distance during my stay in Koloa, Hawaii with no opportunity to get close up reference photos of it. One day the private gated entrance was left unlocked and I seized the risky opportunity, even trespassing. My approach to this piece was to treat it in a digitally illustrative manner. The old mill began production of sugar cane in 1835 and closed in 1996. It stands as a reminder that everything must eventually come to an end.
