The striking abstract work of Wang Yehan is characterised by unmistakable bold swirling pebble dashes. The pieces horizons’ are only limited by the viewer’s imagination. Each piece features dynamic shapes and forms which morph in and out of focus like an optical illusion or a trick of the light.
“Metropolis-Pixel” series is a metamorphosis in artwork, reborn from Wang’s abstract language and style innovation following his exhibits within the Natural Abstract series and City Surface series. It was from his 2011 solo exhibition in the Today Art Museum in Beijing, that art observers started to refer to Wang Yehan’s distinctive style as “Metropolis-Pixel”.
Born in Shanghai in 1959, he graduated in 1980 from the University of Arts, Shanghai (now the Shanghai University, Fine Art College). He went to Canada in 1995 and majored in Art and Design at Toronto’s George Brown University, before returning to China to set up a studio in M50 Shanghai in 2004.
Popular with both corporate and private art lovers, Wang Yehan’s works feature internationally in collections such as those of the Grand Hyatt hotels, the HSBC Bank, the Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation, Zhejiang Museum in Hangzhou and the luxury Art Hotel in the USA.
