Objects and space compete for dominance here, but the action itself takes place outside the picture. The viewer is inclined to imagine a devastating scene from which this is the resolving outcome. The colours stand aside to play a supporting role and that is why they seem so natural. But there is much more to it. In some parts juxtapositions of seemingly incompatible colours are tightly bunched and create interesting colour illusions. Other areas form a heavily textured third dimension where light plays its part to keep this painting alive and in motion. Brush strokes, dabs, splashes and apparently uncontrolled smudges are so multifarious, that there are always more to be found and they're never tiring.
