Original artwork description:

Well, this is one tough woman! She is sick of sculptures of women being labelled Venus as though they were all sexualised images for the male gaze. She just wants to be herself, how it suits her to be. She does look a bit fierce, but then it depends who is looking.....

She is quite large, as large as I can make with the kiln that I have. I built her using coils of paperclay, which is fired to stoneware temperatures which means she can stand stone-like in the garden. The surface uses oxides and coloured slips.

Materials used:

Stoneware paperclay with oxides and slips
