The background is made of silver leaves glued over a turquoise and pink color these silver leaves are very usually used in traditional japanese backgrounds imitating also a latticework in a sliding door This background is a little like a mirror that reflects the colour of the room where the painting is I have used alcohol inks for the strongest and most transparent colors these inks are noticeable on the back of the canvas that appears colored
