Original artwork description:

Oil on paper 28x28cm (11x11in) 2024.

In the series “Losing references” I investigate the importance of cultural references in our society. How do you feel when seeing the most representative personalities of the XX and XXI century deal with an inproper situation? The purpose of the series is to make people think about the relationship we all have with culture and cultural icons, and what could happen if we lose it/them, voluntarily or not.

“Joseph at the rap competition” is the second artwork of the series, showing Pope Benedict XVI while participating at a rap contest. Initially, I was looking for a picture of Pope Francis for the painting, but when I came across this picture of Joseph Ratzinger I found that it worked great with the situation, and chose it for creating this artwork. Please note that there is no moral intent in my choice of the characters included in the project, only the statement declared above.

“Joseph at the rap competition” is a 28x28cm oil on paper artwork, painted using top quality materials and varnished to prevent it from aging and deterioration.
