Glacier ice in Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland.
Part of a series of photographs taken during a week in Iceland exploring ice caves and glaciers.
The patterns in the ice are like abstract paintings. The blue-ness or cloudiness of the ice is caused by how much compression it has undergone during the formation of the glacier.
This was taken in an ice cave, carved by a stream of melt-water. They can only be entered in the winter and are unique to each year. The glaciers are retreating very fast and huge open spaces, or arenas, are permanently opening up in the very middle of them.
Printed as an image 16"x12" with 2" white border. Total paper size 20"x16".
