Glacier ice in Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland.

Part of a series of photographs taken during a week in Iceland exploring ice caves and glaciers.

This was taken on a brilliantly sunny afternoon in November.
The beach of the lagoon was covered with intense frost which had made incredible ice crystals.

The enormous glacier lagoon is full of the sound of chinking from the floating glacier chunks, which can take 10 or more years to melt away. Some are 30m high! The lagoon is growing rapidly in size and the glaciers surrounding it are retreating incredibly fast. There was no lagoon at all 60 years ago!

Printed as an image 16"x12" with 2" white border. Total paper size 20"x16".
