I generally paint from digital images, and the good thing about that is that I don't always have to be the one who took the picture - sometimes friends and family help me out by sending me holiday photos to paint from.

My reference for this painting was sent to me by a friend who lives in Ireland, and I found the image intriguing - there was a story behind this scene that was worthy of capturing on canvas. I love the character of the boat that has obviously seen better days, but for all that, its worn blue paint blended beautifully with the blue of the sky behind it. The cheerful colours in the picture worked well together in the context of a sunny day. So I painted it...
