The Jesse Window at Wells Cathedral
Acrylic Gouache and Mixed-Media on Paper
Unframed: 56 x 56cm
Signed by the Artist
Certificate of Authenticity

The Jesse Window at Wells Cathedral is one of the most splendid examples of 14th century stained glass in Europe. It dates from about 1340 and has survived the passage of time well and avoided destruction during the reformation, probably due to its scale and height. The window depicts the genealogy of Jesus dating back to Abraham.

The Jesse Window is also affectionately know as ‘The Golden Window’ by many locals due to its unusual and striking colour palette which exhibits a spectacular golden hue.

This original painting has been painstakingly created using highly pigmented, lightfast acrylic gouache on heavyweight watercolour paper. It has been embellished with gold paint and embossing powders which twinkle when seen in different lights.

This work of art forms part of a large collection of cathedral studies exploring modern society's relationship with religion.
