One of the gates into the old city of Jerusalem, the Jaffa Gate is mysterious and striking. Through the narrow entrance, darkened, shaded, we can pass from the world of modern Jerusalem, with its malls and government offices, into a labyrinth of alleys, the air pungent with spice. I have always experienced a surge of emotion on passing through this point, excitement, delight, a feeling of otherworldliness perhaps, a sense of wonder. The walls themselves are beautiful, rough in places, smooth in others, but light and reflecting of the light. This work is rich in detail, in light and in colour. A great addition to any collection, and a wonderful souvenir of Jerusalem.

Texture has been added to create extra depth. The canvas is 0.5 inches deep and can therefore hang without a frame if wished.
