Original artwork description:

My reflection for this series of paintings has been about the kinds of walls we build, which create divisions in society. But we also build walls within ourselves, walls of misunderstanding and intolerance. It is my hope that these walls can come down in time, with mutual work and prayer. The story of Jericho seems suddenly applicable to our modern situation. Jericho was one of the oldest known fortified cities, as described in these words from Joshua 6:14-15: "It was only on that day that they marched around the city seven times. And at the seventh time, when the priests had blown the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, "Shout, for the Lord has given you the city." As we face the daunting task of dismantling walls, trying to solve problems that seem beyond our human capacity, I pray that we will turn for help and guidance to the Lord, who is the Prince of Peace. This painting has been given a satin varnish for protection; and hanging hardware is already installed.

Materials used:

acrylic and oils on canvas
