Original artwork description:

Jathilan art is a type of art that lives and thrives in rural communities. Jathilan art has the nature of being easily recognized and popular among the public, so art in rural areas is more familiarly known as folk art. Folk art is art that lives and grows and develops in rural communities. Jathilan as a horse-drawn dance features a dancer holding a horse-shaped piece of bamboo or leather with movements imitating the movements of a horse or horse rider. Jathilan art is synonymous with horses as an object of presentation. Horses have provided inspiration, from dance movements to the meaning behind folk dances. Epistemologically, the term jathilan comes from the Javanese term njathil which means jumping up and down resembling the movements of a horse. From movements that were initially free and irregular, they were then arranged in such a way that it became a movement that was more interesting to look at, such as a dance depicting a horse prancing around imitating the movement of a horse.
