This is a watercolour painting of a scene in James Town, Mantse Agbona in Accra - Ghana. James Town is by the sea side and happens to be one of the oldest settlements in Ghana. Here old and broken canoes are kept on the shore, some of which are repaired and sent back to sea to join the other canoes, whilst the rest which are beyond repairs are kept on the shore near old settlements which have been turned into marketplaces. Fresh fish from the sea are sold here in these old market buildings. Some fishmongers sell fresh fish under these canoes, whilst some fishermen who live in these settlements dry their clothes on these old canoes. At night people from the other settlements come around to socialise .
