Artwork description:
Barges carrying the constituents of concrete are discharged on the banks of Ivry-sur-Seine, where concrete is mixed and poured into lorries bound for building sites around the city. Ivry is the main Asian district of Paris and there is a strong tradition here of hard work and Communism. There are factories, a railway marshalling yard, an athletics track, a theatre, a hospital and a cemetery, wherein a recent memorial plaque records:
“Maurice we think of you
The weeds that you let grow in your garden”.
Whether that is reproach or accolade I could not say but there is much to enjoy in Ivry.
