Peace, tranquillity, very Japanese and feng shui, an island of my dreams and imagination. Cranes ( the bird kind!), trees....... A quiet place of contemplation.
Painted on to deep edge canvas using organic rabbit skin gesso to build up raised work of trees, island and birds. This is a traditional technique used for raised work on lacquer furniture in china and Japan. Then gold leafed . Patinated to accentuate the detail and coated with about 4 coats of varnish lacquer. Altogether this artwork has about 20 coats !
