Driving the Ring of Kerry, you won't find this cottage unless you're venturing off the beaten path, down a winding one-lane, dirt road through thick glades of greenery. Tucked away from civilization, it beckons, "Explore me!" For this artist, it called out to be painted. Only thick impasto painting would do for this Hobbit-like shanty.
A palette knife works well when building textures with rich, walnut oil paints. This painting makes me want to touch its stony walls again, scouting for tiny blossoms growing in the cracks.
