'Into the Deep' is a large, abstract collage painting that will be a striking statement piece in any room. The painting attempts to raise awareness of the climate crisis we are finding ourselves in. I was watching a programme about plastic bags contaminating our oceans; alarmingly becoming part of the marine landscape. The current estimate is that 5 trillion plastic bags are used annually across the world, many of them being transported via currents in the ocean to reach even remote parts of our planet.
The deep ultramine blue in this contemporary colour field painting was mixed with artist pigments. The pigments were mixed to a beautiful matte, chalk like finish. Dyed china paper has been carefully layered to add depth as well as lightness to the work.
Artist pigments, paper, acrylic, charcoal, pencil and wax pastels.
The deep edges of the gallery wrapped canvas were painted in a complementary blue wash. Hooks and cord are attached at the back of the canvas; it is ready for hanging.
The painting comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
Please note that the image of the painting in a home interior is for demonstration purposes and is not to scale.
