100cm x 100cm x 3.7cm.
Oils on canvas.
In this piece, I aimed to capture the amber heat of a late summer sunset.
The firey cadmium orange and cerise glow, as the sun drops below the horizon, is a striking palette.
The painting is slightly textured and catches the light, making the colours and gold tones burst and glow.
The varying tones are developed by layering and lifting the oil paint, to find previous hues laid beneath, building depth, movement and highlights.
My paintings are often inspired by my love and fascination with ever-changing skies and cloud formation. I try to capture the movement and mood of the sky - Calm and dreamy, to dramatic and surreal.
I study the skies over the Cheshire hills, close to my home and also the coastal skies over Anglesey, North Wales,
