Painting in which I devised an imaginary portrait of St. Catherine of Siena, patron saint of Italy and Europe, at the moment when, after years of prayer and penance, she receives at the age of 16 (1363) the Dominican habit of the Third Order (Mantellate, laywomen) in her very bare little room, where she leads a life of penance for several years. In my work I tried to capture the essence of contemplation and deep spiritual feeling. With oil I shaped the light and color to represent the Saint absorbed in prayer, expressing a fusion of realism and a touch of expressionism. A serene and reflective energy emanates from the canvas, offering the viewer a moment of inner peace to take back home.
