‘IN HER SILENT WALK’ is an acrylic and dye painting on unprimed canvas. It is 100x75cms in size, unframed and stretched over a wooden frame with steel corner braces. My practice entails protracted revision, during which paint is progressively overlaid. Ambiguity is a conspicuous feature of these works. The painting begins with a clear and exacting visual memory of location and event. In this instance time has no application it is timeless. The painting takes inspiration from a musical source, Mile Davis’ ‘In A Silent Way’ . It was Miles’ first statement of abstraction and his first ‘fusion’ work. In the painting any literal representation is overwritten by expressive mark making, which happens quickly to define the ‘moment’ or a series of sounds. Other pictorial elements are added en-route with the intention of creating psychologically charged spatial inventions.
The painting is shipped in a robust custom made cardboard crate (same as those used to transport large screens). The painting is bubble wrapped to protect the canvas. Further wrapping is made with corrugated card. A wooden frame is placed inside the cardboard crate to preserve the structural strength of the packaging. Each painting is insured to its sale value.
