This somber landscape presents a very simple contrast between a soft desert landscape and a much harsher architectural structure. The large, dense, imposing building stands out against a much lighter environment, threatening to dominate it completely. As the title implies, humankind has left a very dark and perhaps irreversible stamp on the natural world, one that should cause us to question our true relationship with nature.
