It captures the moment Naomi Watts' character is dragged under the water and for that split second, in a moment of serenity, is presented with a choice. The painting is grey-tone with a layer of cadmium yellow glaze on top - the colour yellow chosen symbolically for optimism [psychology], counteracting the scene.
