Small (A4) Edition of 150 prints
Il Duomo, Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral in Florence. The original gothic structure began in the late 13th century with Filippo Brunelleschi's dome being completed in 1436. The facade has a gothic revival styling from the 19th century.
Captured in a soft evening light just before sunset I found this building very difficult to photograph. The problem being you are quite close to it due to the adjacent buildings all around and the relatively narrow streets of Florence. The building is tall, bigger than I had expected. I took a lot of images all around and made some stitched panoramas but managing perspective control so that the uprights are vertical and so that the building doesn't have that 'leaning over' look to it is almost impossible.
Consequently I found that the snapshot details of the building itself digested in small bitesize pieces provide the best way to enjoy this outstanding piece of history and architecture.
