When I do a photo shoot for portraits of clients' animals, often quirky shots can occur as this young gelding proved! He was so captivated with the young foals playing beside his field, almost as if he wanted to join in the fun. An impossible shoot for his portrait shots. In the end we changed location...
I wanted to move away from the traditional "horse head portrait" which I have been doing; I see this as the start of putting together my abstract vision and realism. I really like the abstract forms/ lines/shapes that this piece has - a feature piece that perhaps shows a new path...?
I used the traditional grisaille tecqhnique; building a tonal structure much like a sketch in tonal greys and then layering over with transparent layers of oil paint, slowly building up the work.
I do hope you like this piece and have the time to check out other pieces in my store. Many thanks for dropping by, it's much appreciated!
