Original artwork description:

This piece was the first created in this written series and was inspired by lettering tried previously on some Birthday cards I had created. I wanted to further experiment with the overly curly and exaggerated lettering style to see where I could take it by adding contrasting colours. I first wrote out the message in pencil to have a rough guideline and then re-wrote the letters in contrasting colours over the top, adding parts to them as I wrote. I chose to use the contrasting green and pink colours because I like the combination and wanted to see how they would react together.
These written pieces were created in 2009-10 when I was experimenting with some different writing styles and visual ideas. I recently re-discovered them rolled in a tube with some other large works on paper whilst re-arranging my studio. I have always enjoyed playing and experimenting with writing styles and lettering, from different graffiti styles to more free flowing unrestricted shapes and movements. I remember at the time I was lacking a bit of inspiration and just wanted to do something to start the creative juices flowing and gain some momentum. That is why the first two of these written pieces are entitled as they are, “I thought I’d Try To Write Something On This Bit Of Paper To See How It Looks” and “I’m Just Trying To Do Something”. As the titles suggest I was just writing out my thoughts and ideas in an attempt to see how they turned out and as I was creating them other ideas started to form. They were an enjoyable experimentation in free lettering styles, spacing, shadows and colours. I actually still really like the message of “I’m Just Trying To Do Something” because it can be relevant in many areas of life as an answer to the question “Why?” and also there are way too many ideas that are spoken or thought about and never actually done. This is one of my ways to push myself to keep creating and getting ideas and experiments down on paper, there is nothing to lose and everything to gain or learn from an idea that it is actually attempted. As it turned out, starting these written experimental pieces sparked the creation of a further five written pieces, so it always pays to try out your ideas.

I will always strive to find the cheapest possible option for the customer (usually my local POST OFFICE EMS Recorded Delivery, but unfortunately they don’t deliver worldwide at the moment) If the amount of shipping charged at purchase is less than the shipping company charges then I will refund the difference to the customer. This refund will be done after the picture has arrived safely and has been accepted.
