I tell you that I love you, and you repeat it back to me. I look at you, to see if I recognize sincerity in my words. I think it’s become a habit for you to respond to me, in the way you do. It has no more emotion than if you were to offer me more milk to go in my coffee. The caring and love is there, but it’s layered beneath life’s day-to-day. I want the emotion, though. So just to get a reaction, I tell you that “I love you more”. You glance at me and smile in amusement. “I know”, you say. We both laugh in a shared moment, and we each continue about our day.
