A shot from the series "I Cipressini" from my collection TUSCANY: LAND OF SOUL.
The Val d'Orcia is a wide countryside in southern Tuscany, the region where I live.
Its green hills are characterized by a dense vegetation, dotted with vineyards, olive groves, cypresses, beech and chestnut groves, a backdrop of marvelous castles, medieval villages and rural houses.
Since 2004 the Val d'Orcia is in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The cypress is one of the protagonists of the Tuscan countryside, a true symbol of this region and specifically of the Val’ d’Orcia area; its presence in Tuscany dates back to several centuries before Christ when it was imported from Asia Minor and was particularly loved by the Etruscans.
If cypress trees are a symbol of Tuscany, there is no doubt that the “I Cipressini” (a little group of cypress trees) of San Quirico d’Orcia are the most photographed in the world.
The famous cypress trees of San Quirico d’Orcia grow on a low and soft hill. These evocative trees are among the most loved and photographed sights of Val d’Orcia and a true icon of Tuscany.
Silence, peace and beauty, these trees are the symbol of a uncontaminated nature and landscape.
