I CIPRESSINI (STUDIO 11) is a shot from my most sold and appreciated photography collection: "TUSCANY: LAND OF SOUL".
The group of cypresses depicted is probably the most universally recognized symbol of the Val d'Orcia in southern Tuscany, the region where I live.
The cypress trees are one of the protagonists of the Tuscan countryside, a true symbol of this region and specifically of the Val’ d’Orcia area; its presence in Tuscany dates back to several centuries before Christ when it was imported from Asia Minor and was particularly loved by the Etruscans.
If cypress trees are a symbol of Tuscany, there is no doubt that the “I Cipressini” (a little group of cypress trees) of San Quirico d’Orcia are the most photographed in the world.
The famous cypress trees of San Quirico d’Orcia grow on a low and soft hill. These evocative trees are among the most loved and photographed sights of Val d’Orcia and a true icon of Tuscany.
The composition balances minimalism and depth, with the cypresses placed in the right third of the frame, creating contrast against the soft, undulating landscape.
Their dark, vertical forms stand out against the muted greens and earthy tones of the hills, while the silvery-gray sky unifies the scene. Diffused light filters through the clouds, adding a gentle glow and subtle shadows that enhance texture and mood.
The image evokes themes of silence, resilience, peace and beauty, harmony with nature, blending simplicity with emotional depth.
