I can describe my work as a mixture of Pop and folk Art, also abstract and figurative are combined
I ‘m interested to document the narrative of the human race, specially the feelings. We have been representing the human form in art since the Paleolithic Age.
We have the capacity to react to different stimulus like: love ( for example). That’s the reason of my narrative: to portrait the intensity of the human emotions.
I was born and raised in Cuba, and I think this shaped my perspective of everything.
The blending of Native Indigenous, African and European cultures
I like to explore questions of identity, and mixed realism with fantasy
My influences are diverse: like the modern masters from Cezanne, Henri Matisse to Frida Kahlo. I have very strong roots from my Cuban influences, like Wilfredo Lam and Manuel Mendive,
Mendive has been dedicated to explore the magical dimension of the Afrocuban Art and I find a lot in common with him when I use all universal symbols and the relationships between humans and nature.
I enjoy using acrylic paint and a variety of acrylic mediums. I use sharp brush strokes, contrasting textures, mixed media (found objects: fabric, handmade paper)
