Manfred Hellweger’s stainless steel sculpture combines exceptional craftsmanship with profound conceptual depth.
Composed of numerous individual stainless steel cubes, the sculpture embodies both the complexity and unity of human thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
Each cube has been cut from 20 mm stainless steel tubing, meticulously ground, and welded into an ascending form using the TIG welding process. The final passivation treatment ensures an oxidation-resistant surface, making the sculpture suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments.
The base, cast from fiber-reinforced and frost-resistant concrete, provides a solid contrast to the delicate structure of the stainless steel composition. A custom-made, brushed larch wood mold was used to imprint the natural wood grain onto the concrete, creating a harmonious interplay between organic and industrial materials.
Conceptually, the work aligns with Hellweger’s renowned sculpture series human flow and human nails, in which individual elements merge into a greater whole. The seemingly random arrangement of the cubes conveys a sense of dynamism, reminiscent of ascending thoughts or dissolving structures—a metaphor for the constant transformation of human life.
A work of art that captivates with its minimalist design and profound symbolism—a fascinating interplay of stability and fragility, order and chaos.
Dimensions of the stainless steel sculpture: 80.5 x 13 x 8 cm
Total height: 181.5 cm
Total weight: 32.5 kg
