I did this painting from life in my studio using a new banana each day. It was the end of summer so if I left a fruit there for several days it would go bad very fast. I took this opportunity to see how similar but different bananas would turn out as one.
This painting represents the determination to stand in my truth. The motive behind it comes from a time when I was having lunch with my paternal family. It was my first time eating a banana for dessert at the table. I was used to just eating them on the go, and as a kid my mother never bought them; so I really had no idea how a banana should be eaten according to the "protocol". I went against my gut and took a knife and a fork. How pleased were my aunt and cousins to be able to dramatically tell me I was doing it wrong.
