Snow is a fairly rare event in the fens and so always creates a bit of excitement around here. I get out as soon as possible to record it, as it doesn't usually last for long. This house is between my village and its neighbour after a couple of hours snowfall. It stopped, the clouds cleared and it was all gone by the afternoon.
Christopher Witchall's landscape painting captures the light, atmosphere and vast skies of the Cambridgeshire fens where he has lived, explored, painted and photographed for 30 years.
His unsentimental approach to landscape combines traditional painting techniques with the realism and cool detachment of photography.
