Original artwork description:

Van Gogh painted Café Terrace at Night in Arles, France, in mid-September 1888. The painting is not signed, but described and mentioned by him in three letters. I took the figure from Hopper's 'Automat' and placed it at a table by the terrace. I took my group to Arles some years ago and had lunch inside this cafe hoping for a feeling of what Van Gogh felt when he was inspired to paint it. I felt I needed more significant figures, thus my selection of one of Hopper's. These two artists are the ones who've influenced me in my own work the most. I paint on a good quality cotton canvas with a brand of paint that's only available from one source.
