Do you ever wonder what makes some people able to remain steady and resilient, even in the face of stressors and adversity? Does this depend only on the disposition we were born with, the right circumstances and relationships, or can we learn to build resilience from the inside out? Hope is both fragile yet powerful. To lose hope is to fall into despair. Hope does not deny the present challenge or problem; but hope insists that the problem is not the end of the story. Hope is faith directed to the future.
This sculpture is the first of a series which will explore faith, hope, love and peace. It is composed of dabs of polymer clay, small circles that touch and build on each other organically to create an open-worked orb, a structure with no beginning or end. Light and space interact with these forms, so that you look at and through the orb, simultaneously seeing surfaces and edges in the front, as well as the reverse planes of the pieces in the back. The palette of warm and cool greens, painted in alcohol inks, with gold foil accents, express the life-giving nature of hope. Various Scripture verses remind us that the strength of our hope stems from the faithfulness of God. The word “hope” appears in twelve languages, to express its universal nature.
At about 4.5” wide by about 5.75” tall, this sculpture is the perfect size to display in your home, your office, anywhere you’d like a visual reminder of the beauty of the hope that’s yours. It would also be a lovely gift for a someone you’d like to bless and encourage. My maker's mark is on the lower back. The sculpture has been coated with epoxy resin, and the 1.5” decorative metal pedestal upon which it was photographed is included.
