When you consider that JSS would pay for a gondola to row out and then sit out in the open Grand Canal and paint watercolours while the gondola just wallowed - its remarkable.
This painting is an homage to the great man.
I prefer JSS watercolours to his portraits - even through he was undoubtedly the portrait painter of his generation [the Edwardian period]
