THE BRIDGE BETWEEN THE ANCIENT AND THE CONTEMPORARY. As in this entire series, I set myself the arduous task of bringing the old masters into dialogue with mass culture, uniting ‘Pop Strategies and Suggestions’ with the art of the past. In this new work, I was inspired by Hayez's painting, ‘Susanna at the Bath’. Susanna, a very beautiful and pious young woman, is lusted after by some old men who catch her bathing, threaten her with adultery if she does not give herself to them, and for refusing, she is publicly accused of adultery and condemned to death. Some painters emphasise the drama, others focus on the artistic nude, as in this case Hayez who eliminates the voyeurs in his painting.
The image is the result of a creative process that includes advanced digital manipulation and meticulous post-production. The high-definition giclèe print on canvas is retouched by hand and treated with protective varnish to make it resistant and long-lasting.
