Original artwork description:

While Children have always been one of my favorite subjects to paint, this piece was born out of my becoming increasingly aware of just how widespread the tragedy of Child Trafficking truly is. It took me by surprise to learn the magnitude of this horror, a few years ago. As a Grandmother of three little ones, there is nothing more heartbreaking to imagine. Since then I’ve begun bit by bit, to piece together- with the help of many others with expertise in the field- the beginnings of an organization wherein children rescued from this situation, will be encouraged to utilize “Artistic/ Visual Expression” as a means of communicating their feelings, as they work through the “post traumatic” period. This subject is what inspired this painting, as the first in a collection I will be building out over the coming weeks and months. Although my desire is to depict the sobering nature of this subject, I want the paintings to include a message of “Hope”. This canvas is painted around the edges so it can be hung, unframed.
