Original artwork description:

Okay, you might not have heard of Hoagy Carmichael, but I'll bet you have heard Ray Charles rendetion of "Georgia on my mind". Actually, Hoagy was one of the most prolific songwriters of the first half of the 20th century. If you are over 50, you are probably familar with "Stardust", "Heart and Soul" and "The Nearness of You". All by Hoagy. I found an old photo of a young Hoagy at the piano and just had to turn it into a painting. I started out with lots of india ink and gradually worked in the color, but keeping it "nightclub dark". All the time trying to capture the intensity and concentration of the composer. The painting is india ink and acrylic paint on archival grade drafting mylar. It is mounted on tempered masonite that is 6" wider and 7" taller than the actual painting. It is one of a kind and no authorized copies will ever be allowed.
