Original artwork description:

A painting in Gouache of a hill side just opposite our accommodation at Kuzuku Lodge, Eastern Cape, South Africa. There were beautiful colours in the terrain. The trees and finbos speckling the landscape. This was a challenging painting to paint plein-air as the landscape was very similar and there were no buildings or large furniture to hook on. The landscape was all about tone and colour. It is important to simplify what you see and using gouache assists this process. I think I managed to capture it quite well. I must admit I tend to enjoy portraying colours in a varied way when I paint. This definitely is an impressionistic painting. I really like painting plein-air as I find painting from photographs takes away the freshness of the finished painting and you lose the variety of colours too as the camera gives you what the camera sees not what you see. You see this painting uncropped, you can of course crop it for framing.

Materials used:

Gouache and Watercolour Papers
