"Jenny, I am not one bit amused by your antics," Hilary snapped, in the way one might address a naughty toddler. In fact, Jenny was forty-two, and had just presented her wife with two tickets to a remote Portuguese island.

"Relax, darling, you'll love it. I've heard the geology is stunning."

"That may be so," Hilary responded, tight-lipped, "But I imagine I'll need new walking boots. And a new raincoat. How warm's it going to be? And what about the luggage allowance? I don't even know what the currency is there. I mean, really. Have you thought this through?"

"We'll figure it out. You're only fifty once," Jenny replied, with a smile.
