This painting was conceived on a painting trip in Cornwall two years ago from oil sketches and photographs taken at the time. When the tide is out at St. Ives the brightly coloured fishing boats lay at different angles on the firm sand. Their anchor chains form green seaweed lines, which curve across the beach and through small pools of water. A few seagull hover over a rowing boat and the red flags add movement to the scene. The painting has a traditional light gold with canvas slip frame.
