Original artwork description:

Part of a series of stone carvings exploring the theme of voluntary isolation born from the weight of mental health struggles, balancing human connection and exposure with a desire to withdraw and self-preserve. This particular sculpture is of a female form.

The stone is a type of slate called 'Devon Stone', found only in the South West of the UK, excavated from beneath my own studio. The high levels of iron give the stone rich yellow and red hues along with metallic glints of Fool’s Gold. The stone has bands of white quartz throughout giving it a fantastic texture, but making it exceptionally difficult to carve.

Each sculpture is set on a custom brass base, purpose built for each sculpture.
